Social marketing or Web 2.0, is a process of marketing helpful information in your area of expertise, to content sharing sites, such as squidoo lenses, hub pages, bookmarking sites, ezine articles, blogs, video and social sites such as facebook and myspace to mention a few. Posting the content you have created to these various sites, positions you as an expert and increases your presence on the internet.
The object of Social Marketing is to develop a large number of these mini sites, marketing your information and products that will be of value to others for their particular business or service. As I said this creates a greater presence on the internet, positioning yourself as an expert in your field of expertise.
Posting your content to social bookmarking sites, such as digg, furl, delicious, stumbleupon, etc, is a marketing strategy to get your content spreading into many more areas on the internet. Once again, more exposure, more traffic.
Creating specific links in your articles that send information seekers to your other sites generates more traffic to all of your content. The search engines become aware of the extra traffic and increase your ranking position on the web. Ranking higher on the search engines will get you on the front pages of places like google and yahoo etc and give you greater exposure again. This is a definate advantage, as people searching for information on your topic of expertise, are more likely to be confronted with your information first.
